Joe joined the Boys and Girls Club in January 2016 as an intern from Western Connecticut State University, where he graduated with a BS in Health Promotion Studies and a concentration in Community Health. Following his internship, Joe was hired as the assistant director of the LIT’s (leaders in training) for summer camp 2016, and worked in teaching the young volunteers leadership roles and responsibilities.
During his time at Western, Joe was in the HPX Club, which was an extension of his major that worked in promoting events focused on raising awareness about healthy habits and stress reduction techniques. As an intern at the club, Joe ran six educational classes for the club members. Three of the classes were devoted towards teaching kids good sportsmanship and how to properly play the games in the game room, while the other three were food demonstration classes that concentrated on teaching the youth the importance of healthy foods and how they can affect us both mentally and physically.
Joe is looking forward to working with the youth of Ridgefield, and believes that the club serves as a home away from home for many members. He hopes that in the future he will be able to develop more relationships with the kids and be able to inspire them in both silly and serious ways to go beyond their limits and to always BE GREAT!
